In 1725, the Austrian government sent an official to watch a village dig up a corpse. He wrote down what he saw: no decomposition. Hair and beard had grown. New skin. New nails. Fresh blood in the mouth. They staked it. They burned it. His report ran in a Vienna newspaper, and Europe got a new word for it. Vampir.

A 1948 sighting in Chehalis, Washington, that predates Point Pleasant by nearly two decades; a disputed 1957 case in Braidwood, Illinois, and then Chicago, where paranormal investigator Lon Strickler mapped over 160 reports between 2011 and 2020, from O'Hare Airport to Lincoln Park's Oz Park. In this episode, Kristin walks through the last documented day hour by hour, built entirely from original body cam and witness recordings obtained through a public records request that have never been played publicly before. It includes an eyewitness account of two unidentified people with Ingrid on a remote mountain road that's never been reported anywhere, and a contradiction in the official record about where her car actually was that no one has ever explained. We also cover why Ingrid Lane's identical twin's DNA still isn't in the national missing persons database, three years later, and what you can do if you have any information at all.
On August 30, 2013, 19-year-old Bryce Laspisa called his mother at 2 a.m. to say he was pulling off Interstate 5 near Castaic Lake to rest. He never called back. Hours later, his car was found overturned at the bottom of an embankment — his phone and wallet inside, Bryce nowhere to be found. This week we're covering the disappearance of Bryce Laspisa: the bizarre 48 hours before he vanished, the tire tracks that have fueled theories for over a decade, the scent trail that ended at a truck stop, and the mental health, staged-disappearance, and foul-play theories that still circulate today. We have a tragic update in our missing scientists series. The body of the missing person, Melissa Casias, has been found. Eleven months after Melissa Casias vanished from a highway in Talpa, New Mexico, human remains were found by a hiker in the Rio Chiquito section of Carson National Forest. On May 31, 2026, those remains were officially identified as Melissa. She was 53, an administrative assistant at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and she had been the subject of one of the largest volunteer search efforts in recent New Mexico memory. The cause and manner of Melissa Casias' death have not been determined. A handgun was found alongside her remains. And her family, in their first public statement, said she was found in an area that had already been searched. Then they said they intend to pursue justice.

McCasland didn't disappear alone. He disappeared at the end of a nine-month pattern involving eight people — scientists, engineers, researchers — all connected to the Air Force Research Laboratory or the institutions it funds. Some vanished. Some were murdered.
